Race Day Information - Sunday 9th September 2018
Women's 5 mile race
Thank you to everyone who has entered the 5 mile women's race - this is going to be an awesome event!
Due to a number of requests, we will have a small number of entries available on the day. If you want to reserve one, please drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
The start and finish of our run is at:
Portlethen Academy, Bruntland Road, Portlethen, AB12 4QL
Please come to registration to collect your race number and add your emergency contact details to the rear. Copies of our safety briefing and course map will also be available. This will also be available online before race day.
The registration desk is just inside Portlethen Academy, past main reception. It will be clearly signposted.
Registration is open from 9am until 10.10am. If you are hoping to register on the day, please give yourself a little extra time.
Suzanne and Karen of Jazzercise will be helping you get energised and ready to go at around 10.15am. This will be followed by a safety breifing. Please ensure that you listen to the brefing in full as important information will be made available.
The race start is at 10.30am.
Road closures have been agreed with Aberdeenshire Council. For the last half mile of the course, the roads will be open, and you will be directed onto pavement. Please listen for details during the safety breifing, and follow signage and mashal directions. We have a rolling closure in place until 12pm. If you are still on the course, please be aware of the possibility of traffic.
We have a number of photographers around the course, ready to capture your flying feet!
There is a church service in the academy on the same day, and also football matches on the academy pitches and at Nicol Park, so the academy car parks may be busy.
Please consider car sharing if possible.
We would ask that runners please consider parking at Portlethen Primary School, Fishermoss Primary School, or Portlethen Medical Practice car parks. These organisations have kindly given their support, and are only a short walk from race HQ. Please ensure that you park in marked bays only. If parking in the medical centre, please be aware that the Community Ambulance is based there, and must have access to and from the car park for community pickups and drop-offs on Sunday morning, so please make sure access is not blocked.
If you find that it is very busy, Badentoy industrial estate is also around a mile away. Note that there are ongoing works at the Asda Car Park, so this is likely to be particularly busy.
We have also been asked to ensure that people do not park illegally or inconsiderately in the streets surrounding the event. Thank you in advance for your co-operation.
- Bag drop tent. No charge for this facility, but we would welcome any spare change into the CLAN collection bucket!
- Mearns FM providing music and commentary
- Levack Physiotherapy tent
- 1st Portlethen Scouts hot roll barbecue
- Ice cream van
- Raffle and tombola to raise money for CLAN
After the race:
Please make sure you collect your medal and snack pack (kindly sponsored by Silver Apple Aesthetics. We have trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, and presentation medals for best in each category - sponsored by the Paddock Bar (who also kindly sponsored our water!).
The Paddock have a special Race Day Menu - why not drop in and make an afternoon of it?
Family Mile Dash
The family mile dash race is open to all! We ask for a donation to CLAN in return for your participation. Each finisher will receive a medal, drink and snack.
There are 200 places available for this event, on a first come, first served basis.
Registration will be open for this event up until 11.45am (or until all entries are sold). Registration for the 5 mile race is open until 10.10am at the same desk, so we will give prioroty to these entrants first to ensure they are ready on time.
Suzanne and Karen from Jazzercize will be on hand to make sure you are properly warmed up and ready to dash at 11.50. Please ensure you listen carefully to the safety breifing that follows the warm up.
The mile course is all on path, except for a single crossing at the front academy car park. Marshals will be around the course to keep you safe and ensure you are going the right way!
Do come along and cheer our runners back, and visit the stalls in our race village - see above for details.
We hope that everyone has an amazing day, and this builds a solid foundation for the event in future! Keep your fingers crossed for good weather!!
